Frequently Asked Questions
You say your flowers are local-what does that mean?
I see a lot of florists advertising that they use local flowers but what they really mean is that some of the focal flowers or details are local and everything else is imported. When we say local we mean 100% grown in the state of Maryland. We grow the majority of flowers on our own farm property. For large orders when we need even more blooms, we order them from our network of trusted fellow Maryland growers.
Can you talk about some of your environmental policies?
Absolutely! We have made several commitments as a farm as we strive to be the best stewards of nature that we can be. Those include:
-Sustainable packaging: We use paper sleeves and stamp them with a logo instead of using stickers. When you receive a Cut Clover bouquet all of the packaging is compostable. We avoid single use plastic whenever possible. Plastic items on the farm are selected for durability and long term usage. We never, ever use floral foam.
-Avoiding the use of Peat, which is a non-renewable resource. All of the seedlings that we grow ourselves are grow in peat-free potting mix.
-Integrated Pest Management that prioritizes insect life on the farm. We never spray pesticides in our field and deal with field pests by manual removal and encouraging pest predators. In our indoor growing spaces we only use organic interventions when necessary.
-Organic Inputs. We only use OMRI approved fertilizers. For compost we use Leafgro, which is made in Maryland from the leaves that are vacuumed up throughout the state each year.
-Some of our best field hands are Foxes, Rat Snakes and Birds and we appreciate them!
I’m hosting a party-what are my floral options?
If you love to arrange flowers, I highly recommend reserving a party bucket! This is a farmers choice mix of blooms that can be tailored to the spirit of your event. We need at least a week’s notice for any special orders.
Need something last minute? Our mixed bouquets can be found at Each Peach Market in Mt. Pleasant throughout the week.
Can I buy a dozen roses?
Sadly our Maryland climate is not ideal for roses so we do not grow them. We do however, have fantastic focal flower options throughout the season that are just as beautiful, more unique and surprising. In the spring you will find gorgeous Tulips, Peonies and Ranunculus; Lisianthus are the stars of summer, and Dahlias blow us away every fall.
When are your flowers available?
Our season is determined by Mother Nature. We typically harvest flowers for sale from the first tulips in April to the first frost in the fall which usually falls between October 15th and November 1st. The best way to know when our spring season has begun is to subscribe to emails. We send out a handful of emails each year to let everyone know when the first flowers of the year are blooming and when there are CSA subscriptions available.
Where is the Farm?
We are so lucky to have found a home at Hidden Ridge Farm, a private 50 acre property in the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve in Clarksburg, Md. It a quick 45 minute drive from the farm to the White House in Washington, D.C. Visits to the farm are by appointment only.
Do you do Pick Your Own?
We do not provide pick your own services at our farm. Our focus is in wedding and event floristry and market bouquets.
