Field Notes April 12th-18th

The week started with surveying frost damage and ended with 90 degree days. A reel I made about moving a bee went viral. People were delighted, surprised and sometimes upset by something that I almost didn’t post because it’s an everyday part of the job. It was a good reminder of how precious and unique our lives are, even when we don’t notice.

Late spring flowers are still going into the ground. We transplanted Feverfew, Bachelor’s Buttons, Pincushion Flowers, Bupleurum and Cosmos this week. I am really hoping that these will be a succession after the fall planted blooms. I suspect however, that they’ll all bloom at the same time and these will just be shorter. We shall see! We watered like crazy so that the babies wouldn’t succumb to heat stroke.

There’s a lot of gorgeous stuff coming out of the tunnel-ranunuculus, poppies, anemones and more. After harvesting tulips like mad the heat has made a real impact and next week will be seeing the last of them out the door.

Speaking of next week, we’ll have mixed bouquets back at Each Peach and I’ll be making the first bridal bouquet of the season. The weather promises to be fantastic. I hope you are able to get out and get some sun on your skin and dirt under your nails!
