Field Notes July 13-17: Summer and Smoke

It was a great week on the farm. The zinnias are blooming and the bees are buzzing. Lalania and I got to attend #mdflowercamp hosted by some of our favorite farm partners Two Boots Farm and Hillen Homestead and saw a lot of our other farmer and florist friends there. There were team installations made just for fun, floral tattoos, sun prints and a farm tour. Please forgive me but I must brag that I won the blindfolded plant identification contest which I took way too seriously (tell me again why my kids are so competitive?) Speaking of kids, one of mine joined me at the farm on a harvest day. I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that they are old enough to actually do the farm work and not just be in danger the whole time like when I delusionally thought one could farm with toddlers in tow (thanks trad wife instagram!)

The week finished with Canadian wildfire smoke blowing in. Definitely wear a mask if you have to be out. But! We also have GREAT news which is that we are back at Butler’s Orchard’s market for the rest of the summer! Between Each Peach market and Butlers, you’ll have plenty of ways to get some nature and beauty nearby as you are stuck inside. Speaking of which I hope you get to make something or do something creative this weekend. At minimum arrange some flowers!
